Deadline for Family Law Outline Comments Extended to August 8

News

NCBE has extended the public comment period for the recently released preliminary NextGen bar exam family law subject matter outline. The deadline to submit comments has been changed to August 8, 2024, to ensure that all those in the legal community who are interested have the opportunity to participate.

Family law will be included as a testable subject in the NextGen bar exam’s Foundational Concepts and Principles starting in July 2028. Earlier this year, NCBE appointed a Family Law Content Scope Panel to make recommendations regarding the breadth and depth of the family law topics to be tested on the new exam.

  • For additional information on the development of the NextGen bar exam, review the Final Report of the Testing Task Force.
  • For additional information on the inclusion of family law on the NextGen bar exam and to review the finalized content scope outlines for business associations, civil procedure, constitutional law, contract law, criminal law, evidence, real property, and torts, visit the NextGen Content Scope page on the NCBE website.

The preliminary subject matter outline is intended to inform stakeholders of the specific topics within family law to be assessed on the NextGen bar exam. These topics have been identified as those that are most essential for newly licensed lawyers. Through the public comment process, we seek stakeholder input on whether there are any significant oversights in this outline.
